Can my children skate?
Children aged four and over are allowed to skate. However all children aged eight and under must be accompanied by another responsible skater on the ice who is 16 years or over.

Do children need to be accompanied by an adult?
Children aged eight and under must be accompanied by an adult on the ice rink. Children aged from nine to 12 must be supervised at the rink side by an adult (adults can watch from the viewing platform if they prefer).  Adults supervising children under 12 must not leave the ice rink side or viewing platform at any time whilst the children they are responsible for are on the ice.

Is there a minimum age or height required to skate?
There is no minimum height required to skate but the minimum age is four. Parents must judge whether their children can skate safely.

How do I book a skate aid (Beluga)?
Due to Health and Safety considerations and to prevent congestion, Meadowhall On Ice is obliged to limit the number of skate aids on the ice, we have 15 Beluga skating aids available to hire during each skate session at a cost of £2 each.  These are available on a first come first served basis.

Are there ice skates to fit children?
Yes, ice skates start from child size 8 (25EU). 

How long do I skate for?
Each skate sessions is 40mins.

Is the ice real or plastic?
It is real ice.

Is skate hire included?
Yes, skate hire is included in the price.

What are the ice skate sizes?
We have Ice skates available in UK sizes 8 (EU25) up to adult size 12.

Can I wear my own skates?
Yes you are be able to use your own ice skates on the ‘Meadowhall on Ice’ rink, however we do ask you to use the lockers provided within the Ice Rink or to put them back in your car before coming into the Centre to shop.

What time should I get there?
Please make sure you arrive at the site at least 15 minutes before your skating session is due to start as this allows enough time to get fitted with the correct size skates and to store personal belongings.

How long are the sessions?
Sessions start on the hour during rink opening hours and last for 40 minutes. There will be a 20 minute gap, between each session.

What should I wear?
The Ice Rink is undercover and protected from the elements however, to make your visit as enjoyable as possible, we recommend that your clothing is suitable for your time on the ice. We advise that you wear trousers or tracksuit bottoms as these will dry quicker than denim if you should get wet. Please bring long socks with you, gloves and hat ready for the action on the ice.

Where can I leave my bags?
Bags of any description are NOT permitted on the ice, so we advise you to only bring the essentials with you. All bags (handbags, rucksacks, man-bags, purses etc) must be placed in the lockers provided. Lockers cost £2.00 and are non-refundable. Please do not bring large baggage, shopping bags or valuable items to Meadowhall On Ice as they will not fit into a locker. Meadowhall On Ice accepts no responsibility for personal belongings.

What happens if it rains?
Our ice rink is situated inside a giant & magical Igloo Marquee, so you will be sheltered from the elements.

What is the Ice Rink Size/Capacity?
We have 5400 sq feet of real Ice and a capacity of 200 skaters per session.

Do I have to pay to watch?
Spectating access to the viewing area is free.

Can I skate on Christmas Day?
No, we are closed on Christmas Day.

Are there toilets at the ice rink?
Toilets are available in the Oasis area within Meadowhall Shopping Centre, there is also one disabled toilet located just outside the ice rink.  This facility is for the exclusive use of disabled skaters, the toilet is locked and the key must be requested from a member of staff in the skate delivery area.

What do I do if I lose something during my visit?
Please ask for the Duty Manager on-site for all lost property enquiries.

Where do I buy tickets?
We recommend that all sessions are pre-booked to avoid disappointment. The box office on site is open daily (from 1st November onwards) but will have queues of varying lengths at peak times (Evenings and Weekends).

You can buy tickets online, at the box office inside the shopping centre near the Oasis dining quarter and at the box office situated inside the ice rink.

What are the ticket prices?
Tickets are priced per one hour session and include skate hire. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes prior to your selected skating slot, in order to prepare for your skating session.  Visit the Book Tickets page for a list of the daily skating sessions.

Weekdays before 3pm

  • Adult/Teen: £6.50 (13 years and over)
  • Children: £5.50(4-12yrs. (All children 4-8 must be accompanied on the ice by a responsible 16yr+, All children 4-12 must be under supervision of an adult)
  • Groups of Four or More: £5

Can I buy tickets on the day?
Yes of course, although there may be a queue or the event may be fully booked, therefore, advance booking is recommended to guarantee your skating session.

I have booked my tickets in advance, what do I do when I arrive?
There is no need for you to go to the box office, (unless you need a skate aid), just go straight into the skate exchange where you may have to queue before you are allowed to get fitted for your skates. If you already have your tickets we recommend to arrive 15 minutes before the start of your session.

Can I get a refund or transfer my booked session time?
We do not offer refunds or transfers on any purchased tickets.
